The arrangements for the observation of the May 28, 1900 eclipse were made by Professor of Mathematics Stimson J. Brown, U.S.N., then Astronomical Director acting under the authority of Superintendent Capt. C. H. Davis, U.S.N. Two stations were equipped on the central line, Pinehurst, NC, and Barnesville, GA, to duplicate work in case of cloudy weather.

Professor A. N. Skinner had charge of the Pinehurst, NC station. The 40-foot camera was handled by Mr. A. L. Colton, assisted by Mr. Melville G. Skinner. The photographs taken with this instrument were exposed 2s, 5s, 45s, 10s, and 2s respectively. The plates used were SEED double coated 14x17 in., backed with a thick coat of artists' lampblack.

A discussion of the negatives taken with the 40-foot camera at Pinehurst was omitted in Mr. G. H. Peters discussion of coronal photographs. The Barnesville negatives were considered to have sharper definition than those taken in Pinehurst and showed all relevant features. The original negatives were converted to positive images during digitization in 2022.
